Hey, how’s it going everyone, this is The Anime Man Look, I realize that even before I start this rant properly that what I’m about to say only applies to a very, very small percentage of you motherfuckers out there But it’s something I’ve seen so much of in the past and recently in the anime community And it’s just something that I need to talk about in a video Because not only am I personally fucking sick of it But because I also feel it’s something important to actually address in words Especially since the anime community and *this* whole community on this ‘The Anime Man’ channel is growing a larger and larger every day And I feel that this is something that doesn’t just pertain only to me or even the entire anime community It’s more of just a public service announcement to *everybody* watching this video, regardless of whether you like anime or not So, without further ado, Let’s get angry! As you may or may not know I am one of those anime watchers who doesn’t just simply like or dislike a show I and many others in the anime community Live to get technical and analytical about anime Deconstructing the pros and cons of a show Stripping away every layer of story, characters and dialogue To determine not whether we like or dislike a show but rather *why* we like or dislike a show We know that we love the show, and we know that we fucking hate the show but we want to know what determines that factor, and we want to find those factors and share with you guys To put it in simple terms We’re just a bunch of fucking sweaty nerds who get way too political about Japanese cartoons Yeah, I think that’s a good way to sum up this whole anime YouTuber community And naturally some of the things we say about certain series may spark a little bit of controversy Since most of us, not all of us, tend to spurt out more unpopular opinions about certain shows BECAUSE WE TELL IT LIKE IT IS Y’ALL! But one thing I and many other have probably seen *so* many times in the comments sections of our videos and in online forum posts and even on our social media posts, is shit like this: “HEY! HEY! Can you stop talking about my fucking favorite shows like that?” “Uh, bro? That wasn’t funny. You can’t talk about that series like that because it’s my favorite” “LEAVE MY FAVORITE ANIME ALONEEE” Look there are a lot of things in the world that annoy me and get on my nerves on a daily basis Let’s just say that seeing these kinds of comments and posts certainly doesn’t decrease the number of things I find aggravating on this planet so many people *amazingly* tend to think that what I and other anime Youtubers say about a certain anime series is Supposed to be the objective truth and that at the end of the day we ultimately dictate what you should and shouldn’t watch “If you don’t like this series I say is good or don’t dislike this series I say is shit then you’re not a true anime fan!” If you seriously think something like that then listen to the words I’m about to say to you DON’T *We* do not control what anime you like and dislike *You* control what anime you like and dislike I don’t dictate your tastes in anime I merely just state my own tastes and the tastes of others as an opinion It is not an order; it is a recommendation I know most of you have probably clicked off this video a long time ago because you’ve probably heard of the same shit that I’ve been saying a billion times over but Miraculously some people just don’t seem to fucking understand this easy ass concept I recently tweeted out a joke on my Twitter about the anime movie “Kimi no Na wa.” Which for those of you who don’t know is an *extremely* critically and commercially successful Anime film done by the great Shinkai Makoto And after I read an online article about an interview which stated that the main heroine, Mitsuha, was originally supposed to be of a more stalker-ish yandere character I tweeted out saying: Which I personally thought was fucking hilarious as I pat myself on the back for that And, thank God, a lot of you guys also seem to agree (4,146 likes, 790 retweets) Really good to know that a bunch of anonymous people on the internet Can reassure you that being proud of your own joke is socially acceptable but then I got some replies and legit some emails in response to that post saying shit like: “Ah, not funny bro– I love that movie” “Uh, normally I would find your jokes funny Joey but that movie is just too good to joke about” So what you’re trying to say is just because a movie or a series is “too good” for your taste I can’t crack a harmless joke about it on my personal social media page Wow, you must be *really* fun at parties It would be an understatement to say that Fucking… Muhatma Gandhi was a “really good person” But you still see a bunch of people making Gandhi jokes every now and then Mind you, I fucking *loved* “Kimi no Na wa.” but I still crack jokes about it because it’s funny! I know me complaining about some rando on the internet not liking my joke may seem stupid and pointless because it is But it legitimately blows my mind that some people think like this! Me making a harmless joke about your favorite movie isn’t going to ruin the movie for you And if it does, it probably wasn’t that good to begin with Just be thankful that I’m not giving away any fucking spoilers Oh wait, scratch that, SPOILER ALERT: You’re an idiot another thing that aggravates me, because there isn’t enough of that in the world is when people come to my anime rants and complain about the fact that I’m giving my opinion And, unbelievably, and I’m not shitting you, I have seen legitimate comments on those anime rants saying stuff like: “I don’t care what you have to say about ‘blah blah blah’ because I don’t give a shit what you think, I still think what I think, because your opinions are fucking stupid!” *spasms* *mind-blown* WHAT!? Are you telling me that you’re gonna *willingly* click on my video giving my opinion on a certain aspect of anime or even an anime series and then complain about… Me giving my opinion? I’m sorry, do you know how fucking dumb you sound right now? That’s like willingly going into a bowling parlour and then complaining that you don’t want to play bowling If you don’t want to play bowling… *sassy clapping* Why did you enter the parlour in the first place?! Bowling is fun as shit FUCKING LOVE BOWLING Look, the point of this rant isn’t to roast stupid comments on my video Cause that’s another video for another day… The point is to reassure you all that I do *not* dictate what you like or dislike in anime I NEVER HAVE and I NEVER WILL In fact, that kind of mentality goes completely against the whole idea of my anime rants and discussions and analysis videos I don’t present my opinions on all these anime and otaku stuff to get you to think like me and agree with what I say I do it to show you the different sides of I do it to show you the different sides of the same argument that you otherwise may not have ever thought about And from there, after you’ve seen the different sides I present in my videos It’s up to *you* to decide whether you agree with me or not Of course whenever I see more positive comments saying stuff like: “Hey, I got into the ‘Monogatari’ series series thanks to you! Thanks for the recommendation fam!” Then of course, it makes me happy to see that you like what I think is also awesome But just because I say something is good that doesn’t mean you have to rewire your brain to also think the same way I do If you don’t like the “Monogatari” series or any other anime that I say is good, then that’s fine! It doesn’t make you any less of a fan of anime or, as much as I fucking hate using that word on myself, a fan of me It just means that you and I have different tastes in anime. That’s it. I don’t give a flying FUCK If you love “SAO” and “Hundred” I don’t give a flying FUCK if you hate the “Monogatari” series or “Serial Experiments Lain” Because whether you agree with my certain taste in anime, and whether I like a certain anime or not I’m still going to make jokes about it because it’s funny And as I said at the beginning of this almost pointless rant It’s not just something that applies to anime You can rewind this entire video and switch out the word anime with ANY kind of hobby with a certain thriving and discussing community (as an example) games, movies, cars, music, paintings WHATEVER! If you don’t want to hear an opposing or possibly harmful opinion about something you love or hate then maybe, don’t go fucking looking for it in the first place You can still go and like and dislike your things without ever interacting with other opinions in the community Before I started doing this whole Youtube thing and even before I started running my own website where I gave my thoughts on anime I was doing that! Since none of my close friends were into anime I was literally just in my room watching these sorts of anime series and being like: “I like this anime because I like this anime I don’t really care or know about people who dislike this anime because I’m the only one in my own anime world right now” But now I and a lot of you level-headed motherfuckers out there know that doing that is a little bit boring Discussion is what keeps a community thriving Difference in opinions is what gets us talking And I do not regret going into this otherwise very competitive and butthurt community *because of that* Because now that I am in this more competitive and possibly harmful place It’s just become a lot more fun to watch anime now But guys let me know what you think about this whole rant. I know again I know, again, you’ve probably heard this being said *so* many times by *so* many people I’ve probably made a video on it and I just don’t remember saying so But have you ever met somebody who was like that in the community maybe you were once like that in the past but kind of grew up and moved on? And what are your overall opinions on discussion and opinion based communities and channels Not just anime, but with anything Like what do you think about like people who review anime or movies or music or games or whatever and what do you think about their impact on their opinions and whether you think they’re dictating or they’re forcing you to like their things that they like It’d be really interesting to know, and again, get the discussion going in the comments between you guys I want you guys to let me know all that kind of stuff in the comments below! And again, I can’t stress this enough, but I’m so fucking happy that this community is like 99.99% built up of people who completely understand what I’m getting at You guys completely understand that, sure, opinions might differ, you might like an anime series that I absolutely dislike but so many of you guys I’ve seen in the comments are just mature enough to take it And if anything try to start a conversation going try and, you know, discuss it with other people in the community And it’s fucking awesome to see that That is exactly the reason why I started making these videos and I’m just so happy to see that so many of you guys are so sophisticated and understanding Not just in the Youtube comments but even when you come up to me at conventions When you guys come up to me at conventions or see me on the streets and, you know, ask: “Hey, Joey, what do you think about this anime? I thought it was great, but you said it wasn’t that great” I actually have most of the time a lot of great fucking discussions with you guys So it’s just so awesome to see that a lot of you guys are okay with that difference and Hey I couldn’t be happier with this community that we’ve built together Anyway, it’s gotten sappy, this was supposed to be a rant I’m still fucking aggravated but I’ll see you guys in the next video Thanks for watching, as always like and favourite and if you enjoyed subscribe for more And I’ll see you guys next video, whatever I make Keep watching anime– Jaa ne (じゃあね)!
